Integrating modern architectural technology with traditional carpentry and joinery knowledge we can deliver comprehensive repair schedule packages that form the basis of any restoration project. With an in-depth knowledge of timber frame buildings, we bridge the gap between architects and planning consultants to advise and specify repairs and remedial works in line with conservation principles and honest traditional timber frame restoration.

We are often commissioned to undertake investigative surveys that provide detailed information to the local planning authority and / or the respective client. There is no substitute for an experienced heritage carpenter’s time spent inside a building assessing and advising on practical remedial solutions regarding a defected timber component or assembly.  It is rarely possible to foresee every repair that is required to bring an existing timber frame to a condition suitable for ongoing use. However, we strive to provide a comprehensive catalogue of proposed repairs that enables works to be planned and undertaken efficiently.

All of our repair proposals are based on in-situ investigation and we will work alongside independent structural engineers to ensure the proposed works are reviewed appropriately.

We frequently utilise LiDAR scanning to capture exceptionally accurate 3D maps of buildings. This highly developed technology captures the geometry of a building by taking numerous scans which measure and map millions of points in 3D space to millimetre accuracy. These scans are then linked together to create a single ‘point cloud’.

As the scanner is self-levelling, it allows us to capture a true view of the structure and how level and plumb components are, which allows us to get a unique overview of the superstructure helps to identify structurally compromised areas. It also provides a historic record of the building.

Often, properties in need of timber repair work require listed building consent before they can be repaired or restored. Our team will work alongside conservation officers and heritage consultants to establish and undertake an appropriate schedule of repairs.
